Online Business How To From The Couple Next Door

In my first article, I told you about some of our background in starting an internet business. We have sold homeschool curriculum, eBooks, and home-study courses built around online business how to tips. And we have learned a lot about the intnert through both our success and failures.

In fact, the first eBook we ever sold was called Raising Leaders, Not Followers. My wife wrote it for homeschoolers to help them train their kids in specific character qualities. When she first asked me about it, I was honest with her. I said, “Well, it is a good idea, but not really a hot topic. I am not really sure you are going to sell to many.” Would you believe she proved me totally wrong? My wife had netted a little over $11,000 in about three weeks’ time. That was our first lesson in internet marketing 101.

Christmas cardsNot too shabby, right? On the heels of her first success, my wife started thinking about another eBook for the Christmas season. She said to me, “Sweetie, I am going to write another eBook about preparing your heart for Christmas. It seems like a lot of people get close to Christmas day and end up discouraged because they were not really prepared for the season. The presents are great, but what do they do next?”

I said, “That is a wonderful idea, but with all the free stuff on the internet for Christmas, I do not see how you are going to sell anything. You got lucky with the first one. That was a fluke. But this one, you would be lucky to sell 5 copies.” I was a very supportive husband, right? Well, she proved me wrong again. She sold over $2,200 the first month with that Christmas book. Imagine getting a $2,200 Christmas bonus every year. That is what we do. My wife created it 3 or 4 years ago. We roll it out every Christmas, and every Christmas, we get a $2200 to $2500 bonus.

Do you see what I mean? I will admit that I may not be the brightest bulb, but seeing my wife hit two home runs on the internet without any business or marketing training convinced me. I started thinking I could do it, too. I could start an internet business.

I had a red pickup truck. It was a Ford F150. My daughter had taken it to high school. She was playing softball with the high school. And all of a sudden, her teammates were screaming, “Gentry, your truck is on fire!” She looks up. There were flames going 20 feet high out from under the hood.

As it happens, there was a faulty cruise control switch that was a recall item from Ford. So after we got the fire put out, the truck was a total loss. The guy told me,”There’s a recall notice on this.” I called Ford, and they said, “We sent the recall notice to Texas.” I said, “Thank you, but I am in Idaho in seminary.” But they refused responsibility. I was so upset.

I decided to start an online business, so I put up a little website that said, “My truck caught on fire.” I had pictures of the truck, and I opened up the hood and showed how all the engine compartment was burned up and all the wires were burned up. I said, “Why don’t you help me while I help you? I’m going to give you all this free internet marketing stuff. Graphics package. Some software. eBooks. Marketing tips.” All this stuff I had compiled and got free off the internet. I compiled it into a product and sold it for like $47. And I made $5,470 in the first 9 days.

I hope what you are seeing from these real-life examples is that you can succeed on the internet. Seriously! All you need is a little online business ho to and you can begin making a profit.

Practical Online Business Ideas

Are you interested in starting an internet business? Do you have an idea already, or do you need some online business ideas? I have been building my own internet business over the past ten years or so and can share some real-life examples of what to do and what not to do.

So a little bit about us. My wife Kerry and I really are the couple next door. We are not gurus. We are just two people who happened to get into internet marketing by accident. We stumbled upon the secret to creating information products that are very profitable, require little time, and give us tremendous amounts of freedom. I am a poster child for somebody who started an internet company late in life. I did not start this thing until I was in my 40s. In fact, I started all of this because I was going to seminary and did not have my regular income.

Online Business Idea #1 – Start With What You Know

Basically if we can do it, you can do it. Before I had my online business, I was a remodeling contractor for 20 years. My wife started a little company called Curriculum Connection. And it was designed to help home schoolers find curriculum. All of a sudden, she was asking me, “Steve, how do we build web pages? How do we go online?” So I had to figure that out. And I was definitely just groping in the dark, but I figured out how to do it. And then on top of that, I decided to attend seminary.

There we were over 2000 miles from home and with no family, no friends, and no job. We needed the income we were used to having from my remodeling jobs, and we needed it fast.

So I started looking for the perfect business. And the reason I tell you this story is to say, “I know you are busy. I know you probably have a full-time job. I know that you are experiencing the same things I was experiencing. But you can start an online business on the side in your part time, and pretty soon, if you work it right, it will eclipse your day job.”

Online Business Idea #2 – Define Your Criteria

So I sat down and wrote out my expectations for my perfect business. I wanted to create a product one time and then get paid for it repeatedly. I only had a small amount of time to work each week, so I needed to be paid well in that time. I needed a product that was easy for me, my wife, and my partners if I ever had any. I really wanted a business that would run automatically with very little input from me. I was looking for a weekly, even monthly, paycheck. I also wanted very few start-up costs. Sounds realistic, right?

Well, a lot of people would say I was asking for the moon. But think about this. The only thing I know of that will meet all of those criteria is selling information products on the internet. Because with an info product, you can create something one time and get paid over and over and over.

You start off by spending a little time packaging quality content, market it on the internet, and then sell it quickly and painlessly. You really could almost put the whole thing on auto pilot.

Online Business Idea #3 – Start Small

It was very low start-up costs. In fact, that is one of the questions I am routinely asked. “Steve, how much does it cost to start an online business?” For $15 a year for a domain name, and that is kind of high these days, and $50 a year for hosting, and $20 a month for an autoresponder, you can set up an online business. And that is really all it takes to get started.

If you have an idea, why not start today? These online business ideas are practical and easy to do and can get you going on a path to greater financial freedom.

Business Start-Up Advice For Entrepreneurs

I meet a lot of people who have an idea for a business. Like you, they currently have a job but wish they knew enough to take a risk. All they are looking for is a little business start-up advice. And the first thing I tell them to do is to create their information products.

information products (article 85)That begs the question, “What is an information product?” An information product is any knowledge in your head that others would find valuable. Let me repeat that, any knowledge or experience in your head that others would find valuable can be packaged and sold.

Business Start-up Advice #1 – Utilize Lots of Mediums

You can share this knowledge with others through a variety of media. That can be a digital product, a physical product, an eBook, a video, an audio, or all of the above. Many of my products have an all of the above component. Some are written, some are videos, some are audios, some are multi-media productions.

Business Start-up Advice #2 – Develop Your Own Name

You must have at least one product that is your very own. Why do I say that? Because you want to build your own brand and not someone else’s. I am okay with network marketing. That is fine. If you want to do Avon or Shacklee or Amway or whatever you want to do, go for it. But I still contend that you must have at least one product that is your very own so you are building your own brand and not necessarily someone else’s.

You want more control over your business. You do not want to work for 5% or 2% or whatever somebody decides to pay you. You do not want somebody telling you that you cannot put up a website, or you can only have this kind of wording when you are starting up your own business. You want total control. And you want to keep the lion’s share of the products. Come on! In an information product, you can keep 90-95%. Whatever your hard costs are, they are very small. You get to keep the lion’s share of the profits.

Consider that all of the well-known information marketers have their own products. Guys like Dan Kennedy, Alex Mendoza, Ray Edwards, and Armon Moore have a product to promote to build their own brand.

Business Start-up Advice #3 – Get Out of the Time for Money Trap

And you get out of the trading time for money trap. A lot of you are in that trap right now, whether you are working a 9 to 5 job, or even if you are doing consulting. You are still trading time for money. When you can create something one time and sell it over and over and over, you get out of that trading time for money trap.

Business Start up Advice #4 – Establish Your Authority

Imagine being able to give people information, an eBook that you have written, or CDs that you have made. Anything that sets you head and shoulders above the next guy. That is massive credibility for your offline business.

Think of how many leads you can generate for your business by giving them something concrete. An information product makes your business memorable and can also build your list.

So start today by brainstorming what you know and write down the information you have in your brain. Make your products from this knowledge and begin building a business. In a short while, you will be in charge of a growing business and responsible for giving others business start-up advice.

Internet Marketing 101: What’s Inside Your Mind?

If you are not making money in your offline or online business, take a lesson in internet marketing 101 and look no further than what is inside your mind. Many people are going through the process of building their business, but they do not really believe they can be successful in it. They walk around with mental roadblocks. But it does not have to be this way. You can adopt thought patterns that will lead to greater success. Allow me to explain.

mindset (article 84)Internet Marketing 101 – Be Thankful!

The first principle is to be thankful and develop an ability to be grateful. When you think about the details of your life and business, find things you can be thankful for.

Also, you can be someone who gives just for the sake of giving and not always to get something in return. You can be generous with your skills and abilities. You may wonder what this has to do with business, but it really is true that what is in your head affects the way you work each and everyday.

So are you generous? Are you helping those around you? In my homeschool niche, I like to help people choose the right curriculum and help them make it work for them. Hopefully, you are generous with the information you have, too.

Internet Marketing 101 – Be Thoughtful!

The second principle is to be thoughtful. The words you repeat in your mind can become the realities in your life. What I mean is the stories you hear in your mind can creep in and influence the way you live. Let me illustrate. After each of our webinars, I like to talk to some of the people who attended. When I do this, if I hear any negative comments, it is usually people saying, “I am just not sure I can make any money doing this.” what I find is that this kind of thinking becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you do not think you will make money, then you will not really put your whole heart into what you are doing. If you have some doubts about what you are doing and then try to promote your products, you will not come across as believable.

Similarly, you will want to think about what you are doing: are you building a business or having fun with a hobby? Are you serious about building it up or enjoying playing at it? Too often people who want to really build their business are merely playing at it. This mindset can change if you will being to be thoughtful about what you are doing.

Something else to be thoughtful about is you “why.” Why do you do what you do? Then write it down. For me, I put a picture of my family next to mine because they are one of the big reasons why I help with our business. I like to use that extra income to be able to spend time with them. We also use it to reach out to missionaries and to go on mission trips.

So what is your why? Take some time this week and brainstorm some reasons why you are working on your business. Be specific. Instead of saying, “It is because of my family,” say, “I want to go on trips with my kids and grandkids.” You could also say, “I wan to be able to give money to those who are in need,” or “I want to take mission trips at least once a year.” Then, after you write down your list, go public with it.

Online Business Set up Made Easy

If you are interested, you can set up an online business and make money doing it. All it takes is a little bit of guidance and some hard work. But once it is set up, you can really do well. One of my favorite ways is to sell “one off products.” I use the information in my head about a topic. I’m very familiar with, host a webinar, or a teleseminar, record it, and then sell it over and over again.

presentation (article 83) You can do this, too. Just follow these six simple steps:

1.)  Pick a familiar subject. It should be something you can talk about for at least one hour, and I am convinced that everyone has a topic like that, whether it is pie making, photography, or automobile repair. No matter the topic, keep it simple because your goal is to quickly put out some good, helpful content that will generate cash flow.

2.) Create an outline. Let me give you a simple way to do this. Get out a sheet of paper, and write your topic in the middle of it. Then brainstorm some subtopics for your main topic. Write these down and see if you can come up with two good details about each one of these subtopics. You need maybe eight to ten subtopics with two details for each one. Once you have those, you have an outline for sixty-minute presentation. How easy is that?

3.) Sign up for a free teleseminar service. You can find one that is free to use, and you can get up to 250 callers on the line. That is different from when I started out; usually you could only get up to 100 callers at a time. The cool thing is you can record your teleseminar and download it when you are done.

4.) Tell people about your teleseminar. But who exactly do you invite? Your website, blogs, and email lists are a great place to start. I would just go nuts with this stuff and tell everybody I know that I am having this wonderful teleseminar.

5.) Sell tickets to your teleseminar. I gotta credit Jim Bob Howard for sharing this with me. There is a great sight called Event Bright, and it is free to use. Your customers pay Event Bright, and then Event Bright pays you. But the beauty is you do not pay any money until you start making money by selling tickets. They save you a lot of hassle.

6.) Make a recording of your seminar. If you do this, you will be able to use your recording over and over again. For example, you can market the recording as an audio CD or have it transcribed for an ebook. You can even combine some of your “one off products” and make them into a home study course. The options are infinite.

So what are you waiting for? Why not set up an online business today?

Learn Internet Marketing: The Truth Behind Affiliate Sales

Although I have been an entrepreneur for a long time, I have seen the most success in my business since learning internet marketing. From my experience, one quick way to make money on the internet is through affiliate sales.

cash flow (article 82)The process, although intuitive, can be even easier if you follow five simple keys. From my experience, you can begin this week and see income from this one activity, giving you the ability to afford domain names and outsourcing help. Specifically, you can afford to get help with your email, article marketing, and webinar setup.

Learn Internet Marketing – Recommend A Product

There are five keys to affiliate sales, and the first key is to find something to recommend. It should be something inexpensive that you can comfortably recommend to others. You don’t want to recommend a big ticket item right away, but instead start out small and build up to it. You want your list to trust you and rely on your recommendations. Look at the sales page for that product, and you will be able to tell whether or not it is appealing.

Learn Internet Marketing – Figure Out What Your People Need

The second key is to know what issues your list is looking to be solved. What I am trying to say is to figure out the problems your readers are dealing with and how you can help them. For the answers, I usually go to niche-related sites, forums, or even social networking sites to see if I can find the answer. When I am willing to do this extra bit of research, I end up with more sales because I understand where my readers are coming from.

Learn Internet Marketing – Write A Recommendation

The third key to affiliate sales is to write a recommendation. Let me give you a sample outline. When you write a recommendation for an affiliate product, be sure to include the following: what does it do, how does it benefit the reader, how does it compare with similar products, what did you like about it, what did you not like about it, and what is your overall ranking? You can then post your review on your blog or other website, but the whole point is to make sure it is on your site with your affiliate link and then drive traffic to your review.

Learn Internet Marketing – Spread The Word

The fourth key is to spread the word about your recommendation. Again, your blog or website is important. If you do not have a blog, I recommend WordPress or blogger. You can also send an email to the contacts in your personal or business account. They will be interested to hear about your recommendation.

Learn Internet Marketing – Boost Your SEO

The fifth key to affiliate sales is to supercharge the whole process with search engine optimization (SEO). You want to rank in Google for keywords people would use if they were about to buy. These are different than general keywords. When you use “buyer” keywords, you can optimize your recommendation post or web pages by using them in the post.

Without a doubt, affiliate sales can be a quick way to begin earning money. If you work diligently on these steps, you will see cash flow this week.

How To Submit Articles – Secrets Of Internet Marketing Basics

basics (article 81)Do you have an idea for an internet business? Or would you like your current business to be more profitable? What would it take for you to see greater success? One of the best ways to get started is to follow a step-by-step course that outlines all the internet marketing basics. The key to success is to figure out which method really is the most effective.

Internet Marketing Basics – Submit to Authority Sites

Your first step is to submit your original article to a site called Ezine articles. This is a huge authority site with Google because it requires original content not found in other directories on the internet. Your article will immediately rank higher if Ezine accepts it, and a higher ranks means more traffic. What I like to do is submit my articles to Ezine first. I even have a template I use to make the whole process quick and easy.

Internet Marketing Basics – Rewrite Your Article

After Ezine approves your article, your next step is to create a webpage out of your original article. You can then rewrite your article and post it on your blog. The people on your list will get to see and read your article.

Internet Marketing Basics – Post to Article Directories

Use your second version to post to article directories around the Internet. Articles Base and Article Snatch consistently rank among the top 10 directories, so be sure to post to each of them. The articles I post to these two sites frequently show up on the first two pages in a Google search for my keywords.

When you post on these directories, be sure you rotate the article titles and the resource boxes. With your resource boxes in particular, this will allow you to have backward links go to different pages on your domain.

Submitting articles is a popular and effective way to drive traffic to your site and also get backlinks. All it takes is some well-written articles, submitted to just the right directories. Why not begin today?

Starting An Internet Business Made Easy!

drive trafficThese days a lot of people want to start an internet business, but they are not always sure exactly what to do first. I encourage them to focus on the most crucial component: keywords. Everything begins with keywords. You write articles around the keywords people are actually looking for in the search engines. Then Google and the other engines post your page higher in the rankings which then drives more traffic to your site. With greater traffic comes greater sales. It really is that easy.

Start an Internet Business With Relevant Keywords

So it makes no sense to just pull keywords out of thin air. People will not find your articles that way. Once article can include up to five or six keywords, so I let the keywords dictate what I write about. All that matters is what people want to know. If you keep that in mind, you will get very rich on the internet.

Start an Internet Business With Strategic Placement

You also want to use your top keyword in the title of your article near the beginning. For example, if you do a search on “webinar strategy,” you might find this article, “Webinar Strategy – Four Ways To Promote Your Business.” Someone looking for information on webinar strategy will find this article and read it because it is exactly what they are looking for.

Start an Internet Business With Creative Titles

Remember your title serves two purposes. It should have the keyword in it, but it should also generate some curiosity because you want people to read your article. you want them to see you as an expert on the topic, and you want to get the backward links.

Start an Internet Business With Repetition

When they go to your site from your article, they will sign up for your list and get whateve other information you have. You should also repeat your top keyword a few times in the article itself and even sprinkle less competitve keywords throughout the body of the article and rank in Google for those, too. You can end up doing double duty with these less competitive keywords.

So begin by doing your research. Figure out exactly what people are typing into the search engines for your niche. Then use those keywords as much as possible. You will see a difference in the amount of traffic AND your sales!

Article Marketing Makes Starting An Internet Business EASY!!

Do you have an idea rolling around in your head? Would you like to know how to start an internet business? It is actually very easy, and something you can work on today.
In the past few years, I have begun a number of businesses. I have even been able to help others get their businesses off the ground, and each time I get started, I always use article marketing. I do this because well-written articles will bring in high search engine rankings and in turn more traffic to my site. Let me show you why it works.
How to Start an Internet Business – Submit to Authority Sites
The first reason they work is because you submit them to an authority site. When you submit to article directories like Ezine articles, Article Snatch, or Articlesbase, many times your article will get ranked in Google for your particular keyword right away. Usually within weeks. So write a 300-700 article with a resource box that points back to your website, and use the authority of these sites to build your reputation as an expert in the field.
How to Start an Internet Business – Generate Direct Traffic
The second reason they work is because they generate direct traffic. Once you submit your article to an article directory, other people come and pick it up. Let’s say you have a website about dogs, and these are other people’s sites: a dog blog, dog health forum, dogs.com, puppies.com. They all come and pick up your article, post it on their site, and when people come to visit those sites, they read your article. They also see your resource box, and then they can find their way over to your website. You get easy traffic all from that one article.
How to Start an Internet Business – Build Backlinks
The third reason they work is because of backward links. A backward link is like a vote. Many times my pages and my interior pages show up in Google because lots of other people have posted my articles to their sites. For each one of these, I get a backward link, and as I start to amass backward links, I rank higher and higher in Google.
Getting on the first page of the search results for your keyword and staying there are two different things. There are lots of other people competing to be on the first two pages, and the competition is fierce. Article marketing can be the best tool to keep you on top.

How to Create and Setup Your Own Webinar!

If you want an effective way to communicate with hundreds, even thousands of people, look no further than a webinar. This modern tool enables you to present your ideas, products or services to tons of people all at the same time. All it takes is a few simple steps to plan out a webinar.
Step 1: Create a webinar presentation that gets people to take action.

Whether you are using the webinar to sell condos or tell them you are the best dentist in town, every webinar should have a call to action. That “call to action” could be go to my web site and buy my product …or it could be pick up the phone and schedule an appointment, but the goal of every webinar is to get the webinar attendee to DO SOMETHING! Never forget this.
Create a powerpoint presentation that educates and engages your attendees. Tell them exactly what you want them to do and how to do it. This is the most fundamental rule of webinar planning.
Step 2: Pick a webinar hosting company.

As you think about your needs and your budget, you will want to pick just the right webinar hosting company. There are lots of options. If you think you will have no more than 1000 people and you are going to host lots of webinars in a year, your best bet is GoToWebinar.
Step 3: Set up your webinar.

Now that you have picked a webinar host, you will need to set up your webinar. Usually your hosting company will provide a set up page where you will be asked to provide a title, description, date, and time for your webinar. You will also be asked to set up any polls or surveys.
Polls are a great way to generate interaction with your attendees. A good poll question would be, “What is stopping you from achieving success in (your topic).” You would show four obstacles and allow them to choose the most important obstacle to them.
This is a great way to get your attendees to admit they have a problem that is not easily solved. And when you show the results of the poll live on the webinar, it is great social proof that they are not alone and that many also struggle with this problem. They are also in a better place to ask for help by purchasing your products or services!
You can also use an exit survey when conducting a webinar. See if your attendees enjoyed your presentation, and ask them what helped them the most. You can use their responses as testimonials for your next webinar or webinar replay.
Also, ask them if they would recommend your product or service to their friends and family. If they answer “yes,” then pick up the phone and call them after the webinar because they have indicated they are a hot prospect and warrant a phone call!
Step 4: Create your own registration page.

After you set up your webinar, you need to invite your attendees. You can use the generic registration page that the webinar hosting company gives you, or you can create your own. I prefer to create my own so I can control the look and feel of the registration page. This also allows me to differentiate myself from all the other webinars out there.
Here’s a great tip: require FULL CONTACT information on your registration page. Then before the webinar begins, you can send them a reminder phone call. Afterwards you can follow up with your attendees because you will have their mailing address.
If you feel up to it, you can even offer a special price or package to encourage more sales.
